Happy Friday lovelies! I'm excited to be blogging about Something Borrowed today! I will be giving my review of both the book and movie, but I'm sure if you follow me on Twitter and have seen my many blog mentions over the last few weeks that you know I have a great review ahead.
Book Review
Something Borrowed is the debut novel for author Emily Giffin.
This movie is a MUST SEE ... so go see it if you have not already!
Hmm... who might that be reading Something Blue? ;)
Synopsis: Rachel White is the consummate good girl. She is a hard-working young attorney living in Manhattan and is a diligent maid of honor to her best friend, Darcy. Rachel has always played by all the rules. Since grade school, she watched Darcy shine, quietly accepting the sidekick role in their lopsided friendship. Until her thirtieth birthday, when Darcy throws her a surprise party. That night, after too many drinks, Rachel ends up in bed with Darcy's fiancé. Although she wakes up determined to put the one-night fling behind her, Rachel is horrified to discover she has genuine feelings for the one guy she can't be with. In her wildest dreams (or worst nightmare) this is the last thing on earth Rachel could ever imagine happening. As the September wedding date nears, Rachel knows she has to make a choice. In doing so, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat, and sometimes you have to risk it all to win true happiness.

To say I enjoyed this book would be an understatement. I LOVED IT and am happy to say it is my absolute favorite book of all time. From the minute I opened it to the minute I closed it, I could not put it down. I was immediately drawn in to Emily Giffin's attention to detail. Everything was written so perfectly, that you could picture it all in your mind as the story was unfolding. I really felt for Rachel. Despite always taking second best to Darcy, they were truly best friends and shared a bond with a lifetime of great memories, which made Rachel's situation all the more difficult as she deserved to find her true love too. I constantly found myself on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next and how the book would end. Something Borrowed is a page-turner that made me laugh and cry. All I can say is, I'm glad that there was a sequel (Something Blue) because I wanted to hear more about these characters!
Movie Review
All I can say really is that I LOVED IT! After enjoying the book, I was extremely happy that the movie was great and stayed true to the story. And the casting was PERFECTION!! Ginnifer Goodwin was the perfect Rachel, Kate Hudson was the perfect Darcy, the extremely handsome Colin Egglesfield was the perfect Dex, and John Krasinski was the perfect Ethan. (I said perfect a lot, didn't I? Well, it's the truth!) I couldn't have casted the roles better myself!
I know that there was some controversy with Kate Hudson playing Darcy because she is blonde and Darcy was described as a brunette in the book. Honestly, I don't think it made any difference at all. Kate Hudson was meant to play Darcy! A lot of people also wondered how much of a role John Krasinski would have playing Ethan since Ethan lives in London in the book. The storyline was tweaked a little to allow Ethan's character to be a part of the movie. John Krasinski played Ethan as his witty and funny self and I'm happy that they added his character in more.
This movie is a MUST SEE ... so go see it if you have not already!

From the premiere...

I've seen the movie a few times and something tells me I may see it a few more times ;)
I wrote Emily Giffin on Facebook to tell her how much I enjoyed her books and the movie ... and she wrote back! :) :)
Did you read Something Borrowed? Did you see the movie? What did you think?
I will be writing reviews for the four other Emily Giffin novels in the weeks to come. I will say that if you have not read any of her books, you really should! She truly is an amazing writer. I could not put any of her books down. I read Something Borrowed and Something Blue in one weekend and her other three novels: Baby Proof, Love the One You're With, and Heart of the Matter in a week's time span. If you read any of her books and want to have a little book talk, e-mail me ;)
Special thanks to Lyndsay at Simply Lyndsay for giving me a few tips on writing book reviews!
This was my first one ... how did I do?
Happy Reading! xo

Great review!!! :) You did a great job!
As you know, I loved Something Borrowed too. I can't wait to see the movie!
This is awesome. I'm headed to the book store today.
Hate Hudson perfect for Darcy?? Really????? I thought she looked high the entire time. She was the only thing I hated about the movie - everything else, I loved. Ginnifer Goodwin is one of my favorites, and she was perfect (although I really hated her hair - nothing like a bad wig). The movie WAS very close to the book, and I even liked them combining Allison and Ethan's character into one.
Oh, and that's awesome that Emily Giffin wrote you back! Did you see her cameo in the movie? She was on the park bench reading Something Blue when Ethan and Rachel were talking.
I've been wanting to read this book for a while now! After reading your review, i definitely have to go pick it up and start reading it :)
I loved the book too, I read it a long time ago and I've read all her books since. They are fantastic!
I can't wait to go see the movie, I think I might take my little sister to go see it this week while I'm home. Yay!
That is excellent that she wrote you back too.
I loved the book and the movie SO much! Loved john k. as ethan! I think he was my fave character!
Awesome review!! I love SoBo (the book & the movie)!! And I completely missed the Emily Giffin cameo in the movie!! But that's okay, because I'm totally buying it when it comes out on DVD.

Such a great post!! GREAT JOB!!!
ahh Emily Giffin is too fabulous! I didn't know she made a cameo in the movie! very cool... can't wait to see it.
I've read something borrowed twice, possibly three times. And I'd say I waited long enough after the first time for it all to seem pretty new again.
Even without seeing the movie, I was super excited about the casting. Ginnifer Goodwin is one of my favorite actresses!

Emily Giffin is so nice in person. I got to meet her last summer and we got a little tipsy and shes a blast. I loved the book and movie too! Did you read my post on it?
I love this post- it was fun reading both the book and movie review all from one person. I like reading books like this- they aren't "the classics," but that doesn't mean they aren't good! I appreciate all genres of books, except sci fi. I'll have to check this one out from the library. Thanks!
Great review, hon! I can't wait to see the movie!! I LOVED the book, and everyone who has seen the movie says it follows the book very well. I need to pick up Something Blue and her last two books too!!
xoxo
PS. I love it even more that she did a cameo in the movie. How cool is that?!
So I've missed out on so much since I've taken my mini blog vacay lol. But I'm so glad I came back to this post.
I love Something Borrowed as well! I've read it probably like 4x and yes they NEED to make Something Blue!
I saw the woman reading Something Blue & was all giddy but I didn't realize it was Emily Giffin herself haha. But the movie was amazing! When I saw the trailer I was like why is John Krasinski in here, who he is playing? Then I was like must be Ethan! I actually love how they put him in & its honestly one of the only movies that was so much on point with the book.
I was a little surprised by Claire though. To me she def seemed more uppety in the book & I don't think she was even close to that in the movie.
Can we go see Something Blue when it comes out? hahaha.
i soooo need to read this (ok...see the movie is what i really mean). i keep hearing you and other bloggers and people raving about it! maybe that is a good weekend thing for me :-)
have a good weekend michelle!

I'm pretty sure that this is the most thorough book review ever! haha
I love Something Borrowed, but Something Blue TEN TIMES MORE!
This is probably THE best book/movie review I've ever read! You've got me so excited!!!! And... I totally think we should learn this dance. Let's start a blog link up where everyone posts their video!!! Bahahahaha.
I've been shying away from chick-lit, but you just convinced me otherwise! Definitely putting these on my list! Is it a series or are they separate stories? I'm assuming the latter.
p.s. Totally seconding Jessyln's link up suggestion! That would be hilarious!
I REALLY need to get to the movies to see this one! I loved the books, and a few others in the series, and know I will adore this movie if I can just get my butt to the theaters!
Love this review because it is exactly the same way I feel about Something Borrowed :). I haven't watched the movie, but am tomorrow!
cant wait to see this movie tonight! saw Bridesmaids last weekend and it was HILARIOUS! XO
LOVED the book and LOVED the movie- so much that I blogged about both too, which is not normally something I do! The movie had me laughing harder than I ever do!
Well, you've convinced me! I'll definitely check it out the next time I'm in the bookstore!
